PRAGUE PRESENTATION

The following text is an adaptation of the transcription of the audio CDs of the Conference 2005.

From Prague there have been present: Ms. Jolana Dockalova, TCP co-ordinator from the Czech national youth agency, Ms. Jirina Dzamkova, Member of the OPIM-Organisation (Organisation Supporting the Integration of Minorities), Ms. Jana Rudleova, Officer of the Ministry for Education, Youth and Sports and Ms. Lucie Leinweberova, Specialist of international affairs from the Prague City Hall.

At first the participants presented the economic situation of Prague. Ms. Dzamkova gave an overview about the fields of activity of her organisation, namely the integration of minorities and the organisation of youth exchanges and seminars about human rights issues. Especially the integration of Roma and that of immigrants as well as their status acknowledgement are problem issues in Prague.

Ms. Rudleova presented subsequently the Department of the Ministry for Education, Youth and Sports, which deals with the issues of human rights, of racism, of xenophobia and intolerance. She also mentioned an important guideline that was passed by the Ministry in the fields mentioned above, which should address the directors and teachers.

The Ministry is doing its best to integrate the Roma’s with the support of a concrete project. The ministry’s granting focuses also on the financial support of NGOs that deal with youth projects.

In conclusion they presented the Czech Agency MLADEZ, which supports European programs, translated the “Compass” into the Czech language and also trained the trainers for the work with the “Compass”.

Trainer: Jana Tikalova is Czech; she lives in Prague and is freelance trainer in the field of human rights education.
